When Atchison, Kansas is stricken with drought, survival becomes the main concern of the people living in and around the environs of this small frontier town. The true character of the folks who live there is quickly bubbling to the surface. Some show courage, resiliency, and patience, while others are greedy and have a sickening desire to profit from others’ misfortune.

So is the case with three cattle barons who have gone so far as to hire gunslicks to block water access to the Big Muddy. Seven men have been killed and two wounded for just simply trying to water their stock.

Eutychus Bly arrives in Atchison by request of Governor Bill Hoppe. He, along with Sheriff Jackson and Deputy Billy Connors, have their jobs cut out for them as they face down the rapacious ranchers and the gunmen who are on their payroll.

Will these three lawmen be enough to turn the tide of evil that’s plaguing this town? Soon that question will be answered at the business end of their pistols and rifles.
