Includes a 6-page essay by John Gordon, 50 b/w plates, 4 color plates, and a chronology. “The decision to present a survey of geometric abstraction in the United States was reached after many discussions. Once the general sphere of the exhibition was decided upon, the entire committee investigated the work of every artist who fell even remotely within the area to be covered. Hundreds of photographs and original works were viewed. a great deal of time was devoted to search and study in determining the boundaries of the survey, and to defining the meaning of geometric abstraction. Even after the limits were set and after the artists to be included were selected, revisions had to be made as further research brought more work to light and brought about deeper understanding of the subject. From the first, geometric abstraction established itself as a vigorous current in American art of this century, and has been a valuable discipline for many artists. it is our hope that this exhibition and uncatalogued will give a wider view of the movement and its place in American art.” View Less
