The plot concerns Cassandra Dashwood, who has recently lost her father and goes as a governess to a decaying house in the country. She has been hired by Marion for his daughter Sophy, whose mother died when she was born. Marion’s cousin Margaret who is pregnant is staying there and also her brother Tom who was a doctor and is now an alcoholic. Margaret’s mother, Mrs Vanbrugh makes up the family group. There are two servants, the old tyrannical Nanny and Mrs Adams who cleans and cooks. The house is old and there are secrets hinted at. There is an unexpected but inevitable tragedy which like a shake of a kaleidoscope changes everything. View Less
